Lady Mary Wortley Montagu was a successful writer that endured several bad events in her time. She was married without love, cheated on, ridiculed and surived through small pox but not with out side effects. Without medicene that we have today small pox scarred the skin leaving the beauty of the infected corrupted. In Town Eclogues: Saturday; Small Pox, Montagu describes her inner emotions and fears about being infected. She morns for her beauty, she delineates her pain and her wishes. She survives her illness but her face is now scarred. In her lifetime, after her small pox, her marriage was not legally seperated but they sought out other partners. I found it intriguuing that after her face was scarred by the pox, she still had lovers.
