Anne Bradstreet was not as educated as other English writers but she learned a great deal from her father. Anne was known as being very dedicated to her works, even with 8 children she managed to continue to dedicate her life to writing. In "By Night when Others Soundly Sleep," Anne describes her restless thoughts the roam her mind while the world around her is sleeping. In other poem by Anne she expresses her pull to nature and her family being stronger than her devotion and pull to God. However, in this poem Anne wonders how she can live up to the love and greatness her Saviour has given to her and these inquiries are what keep her awake at night. Anne seems to be caught in a inner battle between wanting to show her apreciation and love for her Saviour yet also wanting to remain as a dependent of the undefying love provided to her on Earth.
