In Bisclavret, Marie de France switches the dominant character role from a women to a man. This lai shows the trickery and deceit done by Bisclavrets wife after she learns his true form. It shows how far a person would go in the medieval era to get what they want and be happy. The lai shows realistic aspects such as justice being served effectively. I found the relationship between the king and Bisclavret to be a little too close but was relieved when the closeness of the relationship played out well. The use of supernatural characters in this helped demonstrate a characteristic of medieval romance. There are transitions in this lai which emphasize the length of time spent in order for the events to occur. I liked the way the storyline was different than other works previously read by Marie de France.
