In the story of Le Fresne by Marie de France, a crude women is dealt a fate awful to her after she criticizes all the women in Brittany who have twins. When the women has twins she sends one of her daughters to be abandoned by a chapel so that as a mother of twins she will not be ridiculed by those she harmed. As the story continues you are taught more of the ways of Medieval Romance as Le Fresne, the daughter, because the lover to a lord only forbidden to be with him based on status. This story was different than Marie de France's previous work Equitan because the story was not as relatable to common society and also had a happy ending where everyone go their way. If this were in today’s period it would have played out differently by the parents not being as accepting and I believe there would be a feud between the sisters over the marriage to the lord. Even in Marie de France's period this story would have ended differently because divorce was not thought of there. It was an appealing story and entertaining to read but the happily ever after was exaggerated fiction in my opinion.
